## Firm Targets State of Michigan for Lack of Accessibility in Public Buildings

### Jill Babcock v. State of Michigan and Michigan Strategic Fund

The firm filed suit against the State of Michigan on behalf of Jill Babcock, an attorney who suffers from a form of multiple sclerosis. Babcock worked for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which had recently relocated to the Cadillac Place building in downtown Detroit. At the time, this facility also housed several other agencies, including the state Commission on Disability Concerns, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the state Workers’ Compensation Agency.

In our lawsuit, we alleged the building violated several accessibility guidelines established under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. These included entrances, restrooms, elevators and parking areas that were inaccessible to those with physical disabilities.
