Background

Attorney Matthew Aneese joined The Sam Bernstein Law Firm in 2009.

Growing up, Matthew always wanted to become a trial lawyer. Today, he advocates for people in courtrooms across the state and has represented clients in nearly every county in Michigan.

Matthew Aneese is an experienced trial attorney and multi-faceted litigator. As a member of the firm’s litigation team, Matthew represents clients in state, federal, and appellate courts throughout Michigan. Matthew is an expert at claims involving wrongful death, catastrophic injuries, motor vehicle crashes, trucking and commercial vehicle crashes, premises liability, corporate liability, and general negligence actions.

In addition, Matthew is heavily engaged in mass tort and multi-district litigation actions across the country. Matthew currently serves as counsel for numerous government clients in national mass tort actions involving public nuisance, antitrust violations, price fixing, RICO, conspiracy, and consumer protection. Matthew’s work in the mass tort arena includes litigation arising out of the opioid crisis, pharmaceutical price fixing, and social media addiction.

Over the course of his career, Matthew has secured numerous multi-million-dollar recoveries and has obtained large jury verdicts and appellate court victories in several challenging cases. Matthew has received numerous awards from respected publications including The Best Lawyers of America and The National Trial Lawyers. His legal achievements have been featured in Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly and in Hour Magazine, and Matthew has been selected by his peers as a Michigan Rising Star or Michigan Super Lawyer every year since 2015.

Outside the courtroom, Matthew serves on several state-wide legal organizations and committees. In 2015, he was elected by his peers to the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly and has served three terms as a member. In 2019, Matthew was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to a 21-member panel of lawyers and judges for the Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions in the State of Michigan. Matthew is a long-time member of the Michigan Association for Justice and currently serves on its Executive Board. Additionally, Matthew has served as a judicial intern to the Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court and a Senior Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Matthew is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School and is a life-long resident of the State of Michigan.
