BACKGROUND

Matthew Aneese is an experienced trial attorney and multi-faceted litigator.  As the leader of the firm’s Major Case Unit, Matthew handles high-stakes cases in state and federal courts throughout Michigan.  Matthew is an expert at claims involving wrongful death, catastrophic injuries, trucking and commercial vehicle crashes, corporate liability, motor vehicle crashes, premises liability, and general negligence.  Over the course of his career, Matthew has obtained over $100 million dollars in verdicts and settlements for his clients.

Matthew is also engaged in mass tort and multi-district litigation across the country.  Currently, Matthew serves as counsel for numerous government clients in national mass tort actions involving public nuisance, antitrust violations, price fixing, RICO, conspiracy, and consumer protection.  Matthew’s work in the mass tort arena includes litigation arising out of the opioid crisis, pharmaceutical price fixing, and social media addiction. 

In the courtroom, Matthew frequently secures multi-million-dollar results for clients who have been harmed or mistreated by insurance companies and big corporations.  Matthew has a reputation for exceptional legal advocacy and has obtained successful jury verdicts and appellate court victories in several challenging cases. 

Matthew has received numerous awards from respected publications including The Best Lawyers of America and The National Trial Lawyers.  His legal achievements have been featured in Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly and in Hour Magazine, and Matthew has been selected by his peers as a Michigan Super Lawyer or Michigan Rising Star every year since 2015. 

Outside the courtroom, Matthew has held prominent positions in several state-wide legal organizations and committees.  In 2015, he was elected by his peers to the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly where he served three terms as a member.  In 2019, Matthew was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to the Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions for the State of Michigan.  Matthew is a long-time member of the Michigan Association for Justice and served on its Executive Board from 2023 to 2026.  While in law school, Matthew served as a judicial intern to both the Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court and a Senior Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. 

Matthew is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School and is a life-long resident of the State of Michigan.  Since joining The Sam Bernstein Law Firm in 2009, Matthew has represented clients in nearly every county in Michigan.
