Slip and fall accidents are more dangerous than most of us realize. In fact, slipping, tripping and falling results in 15% of all accidental deaths in the United States, second only to motor vehicle crashes. Here are some revealing statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Council on Aging and the National Safety Council about slip, trip and fall statistics.

  • Each year, more than one in four adults aged 65 and older experience a fall
  • Each year at least 300,000 older people are hospitalized for hip fractures
  • Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall

  • 50% of older adults don’t tell their doctors when they fall

  • 22% of workplace falls result in more than 31 days of missed work
