The American Red Cross is providing emergency aid to victims of the devastating floods that swept through Midland earlier this week and caused more than 10,000 residents to evacuate their homes.
Working with state and local agencies, the Red Cross is providing food and temporary shelter in nearby facilities. If you or a loved one have been displaced, you can find shelter information at www.redcross.org/get-help/disaster-relief-and-recovery-services/find-an-open-shelter.html.
In keeping with COVID-19 protocols, staff members and volunteers are using strict precautions such as social distancing, protective equipment (PPE), temperature checks and medical screenings.
In addition, the Red Cross will be providing relief kits that include hygiene items, shovels, rakes, trash bags, work gloves and tarps once the water recedes and it’s safe for individuals to visit their homes.
Once emergency needs are met, the Red Cross will begin damage assessments to provide financial assistance to those whose homes were damaged by the floods. The victims will remain in the temporary shelters until individual, longer-term housing can be arranged.
If you would like to help, your donation will allow the Red Cross to continue its valuable work. Make a contribution of any amount at www.redcross.org/donate.
