More than 250 children enjoyed a fun-filled day of games, water activities and a picnic lunch on July 19 at the fifth annual Bernstein Field Day on at the field adjacent to the Farmington Hills Ice Arena.
Sponsored by the Farmington Hills-based Sam Bernstein Law Firm, the event included a tug of war, water balloons, races, a bounce house, and inflatable obstacle course, in addition to a hot dog lunch and snacks throughout the day.
The participants, ages 5-14, were from summer programs sponsored by Farmington Hills Special Services Recreation and Youth and Family Services departments.
This year’s Bernstein Field Day had the largest attendance since its inception five years ago, according to Todd Lipa, Farmington Hills youth and family services director.
“Sam and Mark (Bernstein) told us last year to make it big and invite more kids to be part of the day, so we did just that,” Lipa said.
An enthusiastic team of nine volunteers from The Sam Bernstein Law Firm were on hand to help set up the event and guide the children through the various activities.
“The volunteers were a great help; we enjoyed having them,” said Diane Bonadeo, supervisor of the Farmington Hills Special Services after-school program. “The kids had a good time in spite of the heat.”
A snow cone truck arrived in the afternoon to provide icy treats for the kids, hard-working staff and volunteers.
“We could say thank you a 1,000 times to the Bernstein family and all of its employees for this great opportunity and that won’t even be enough,” Lipa said. “Each year, our summer campers get to have this unbelievable day because all of you at the Bernstein Law Firm care so much for kids.
